Comments (-1) DHH Parkway Students Recognize Deaf History Week May 3, 2024 - Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students at Parkway West High School celebrated Deaf History Week through a series of videos, workshops, and table activities. Deaf History Week is recognized annually to educate hearing and DHH individuals about Deaf culture and American Sign Language (ASL). SSD students in grades 3-12 are invited to share their voices through two surveys, a climate survey and a social-emotioanl learning (SEL) survey. Comments (-1) Students Show Appreciation for First Responders April 30, 2024 - Sirens were ringing and cheers were roaring as Northview High School celebrated First Responders Day. First Responders Day takes place annually and is a time when students and staff show appreciation for police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMT), and resource officers. Comments (-1) Students Shine at Talent Show April 29, 2024 - Over 30 Akerman School students participated in the annual spring Talent Show. The event is held every year to not only give students a platform to perform in front of others but to have students exercise their leadership and communication skills as well. Comments (-1) Students Learn How to Recycle at Earth Day Celebration April 25, 2024 - To help make the planet a little healthier, Southview’s school community worked together to collect recycled materials and repurpose them to make arts and craft activities. The event was held in honor of Earth Day. Comments (-1) Lyles Selected as Chief Human Resources Officer April 25, 2024 - The SSD Board of Education has approved Dr. Catina Lyles as the new Chief Human Resources Officer, effective July 1. Lyles currently serves SSD as the Director of Special Education in the Ladue School District. Comments (-1) Turner Selected as Clayton Partner District Director April 25, 2024 - The Special School District Board of Education has appointed Johnicka Turner as the School District of Clayton Partner District Director, effective July 1. Turner’s journey with SSD began in 2008 as a special education teacher in the Lindbergh School District. She then transitioned into a special education coordinator role, overseeing special education in Lindbergh until 2022, and Ladue through the present, supporting a team of 45 staff members.
